This Rolex Datejust 36 reference 1601 is a rare and remarkable vintage watch from approximately 1978, crafted entirely in 18K yellow gold. It features a striking all original green malachite dial with a clean layout and the iconic date display at 3 o’clock under a Cyclops magnifier. Powered by the reliable Rolex caliber 1570 automatic movement. The watch is fitted with presidential bracelet. This watch is all original.
Case
The case is made of solid 18K yellow gold and measures 36mm in diameter. It is fitted with a yellow gold fluted bezel and a plexiglass crystal. The green malachite dial presents a clean, minimalist look with no numerals and classic, lume free, Rolex hands. The dial is in excellent condition with no cracks or scratches. A minor chip is visible under magnification at 9 o'clock. The dial has beautiful banding present throughout. Water resistance is rated at 10 ATM.
Bracelet
The watch is fitted with a 18K presidential yellow gold bracelet secured by a fold hidden clasp. The bracelet shows light stretch consistent with age.
Condition
The watch is in very good vintage condition. The dial is clean and without damage, it has been extremely well preserved for its age and delicate nature. The watch shows minor signs of wear, including small scratches on the case that are barely visible under close inspection, light hairline scratches on the crystal and bracelet. The bracelet has minor sag consistent with age. The movement has been machine-tested for accuracy and water resistance and performs within Rolex standards.
